Cameroon/Asia Friendship Week : Fruitful Cooperation Celebrated

Relations between Cameroon and Asian countries are productive with visible projects realised. To better boost these cooperation ties, Cameroon/Asia Friendship Week has been instituted with External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella having presided at the launch of the first edition in Yaounde on November 27, 2023. In attendance were members of government, Asia diplomats, and other members of the diplomatic corps.
A friendship village is also operational at the Yaounde City Council esplanade and will run for three days. It serves as a platform to inform the general public about the richness and diversity of cooperation ties between the two parties, highlight the positive outcomes of the said cooperation and foster new partnerships.
The Friendship Week, Minister Mbella Mbella explained, seeks to strengthen the bonds of solidarity and cooperation between Cameroon and its Asian partners. “It reflects the government’s determination to take to the highest level, its relations with Asian countries, in accordance with the directives of the Head of State, Paul Biya who instructed the Minister of External Relations to henceforth institutionalise the Friendship Week,” he stated.
According to the statistics presented by the Minister, Asian countries significantly contribute to the economic development of Cameroon, through the financing and implementation of projects in the fields of agriculture, health, road, port, airport and rail infrastructure.  Asian countries also contribute to the training of Cameroonians in terms of capacity building through scholarships in various forms. Trade tatistics for the last five years indicate that they are the main purchasers of Cameroonian products, representing 39 per cent of over export rates.
