Besiktas : Understanding Aboubakar’s Exclusion

The case of the Cameroon team captain raises eye brows especially as he is at the moment, the best scorer of the Turkish side this season.

 

Cameroon’s captain Vincent Aboubakar was among the five players to be excluded from the first-team squad of Besiktas, the Turkish club said on Monday. Rachid Ghezzal, Jean Onana, Eric Bailly and Valentin Rosier have also been dropped by Besiktas. The reasons advanced by the club are "poor performances and incompatibilities with the team."
Looking at these two reasons, pundits have since then been unable to reconcile the facts knowing the personality and professional worth of a player like Vincent Aboubakar.
It should be recalled that the Cameroonian star returned for a third spell at the club in January from Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr. His return tells of the fact that he has often left in good faith and his capacity to add value to output is undoubted. Even in the confines of the national team, the image he has often portrayed is that of a calm team captain who will do everything to see his team win together. So how do we reconcile such a personality with “incompatibilities with the team.”
Secondly, he is being excluded at a time when he prides himself as the top scorer of the outfit this season. Vincent Aboubakar has scored 11 goals. Can such a performance be described as “poor”? True, he has been touched by injury in recent times, but every player is prone to such inconveniences which often pass on.
With the above arguments, some football observers are of the opinion that the exclusion of these players especially Aboubakar goes beyond simply “poor performances and incompatibilities with the team."
