Reconstructing, Developing NW/SW : Valuable Contribution Of Partners

By making available finance resources, they help in facilitating the execution of some project within the Presidential Plan for the reconstruction and development of the two regions.


For some years now, the North West and South West Regions, have unfortunately been experiencing some socio-political tensions. The escalation of violence led to the destruction of State institutions, traditional edifices and private property. Faced with the situation and in its responsibility of finding and putting in place long lasting solutions, government put in place the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions (PPRD-NW/SW). Spanning over a ten-year period, the Plan has the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as implementing partner and placed under the general theme, “Building-Back-Better”. The State is in need of resources to accomplish the implementation of the three cardinal areas of the Plan; construction and rehabilitation of essential infrastructure, strengthening social cohesion and the revitalisation of the local economy. After research on what has to be done in the different communities, the State embarked on the search for finances, and some partners have responded favourably.
The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is one of Cameroon’s partners who has made a positive contribution, by making available FCFA 21 billion 150 million for the Plan, for some projects that will be executed over a three-year duration (December 2023-December 2026). The objective of the IsDB-PPRD support project that was launched by the Prime Minister, Head of Government (authority under which the Presidential Plan is placed), is to contribute to a peaceful and inclusive society through the restoration and provision of basic services by reconstructing infrastructure, revitalizing the local economy and strengthening social cohesion through increased community engagement.
