South West: Stakeholders Galvanizing Potential Voters

A s the August 31, 2026, dead­ line for voter registration is drawing closer for the closing of ELECAM register, stakeholders in the South West Region are multi­ plying efforts to have more people registered. Following instructions from NEC, the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party in the South West Region has carried out massive sen­ sitization which led to the registra­ tion of more militants and sympa­ thizers in places like Tiko, Buea, Kumba among others. Mbunwe In­ nocent, SDF Communication Secre­ tary for the South West Region, who doubles also as the Secretary General of the SDF Buea Electoral District said they have been supporting ELE­ CAM Council branches in transporting their electoral registration kits to remote areas for registration. The SDF Regional Communication Se­ cretary said they had also written to ELECAM Buea Council Branch head urging them to take their re­ gistration to huge gatherings such as markets and churches. As of Au­ gust 17, 2026, a good number of SDF militants in Bokwaongo had re­ quested the SDF Buea Electoral Dis­ trict to make arrangements with ELECAM Buea Council Branch for the voter registration to take place in their community. The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) is on its toes as well. On August 8, 2026, the seven sections of the CPDM which make up Fako were in a conclave in Buea. Chaired by Prof. Nalova Lyonga, Fako Permanent Divisional Delegate of the CPDM, the Divisional party top leaders were told that as the August 31, 2026, deadline draws closer, all potential voters in their constituen­ cies should have their names on the electoral register.
