Moliwe, Limbe : Six Perish In Ghastly Accident

The victims are three students of Government Technical High School Ombe, a driver and two babies.

It was a tearful day at Government Technical High School (GTHS) Ombe on Friday March 31, 2023 as students collected their report cards to mark the end of second term. Their grief was caused by death which brutally snatched three out of 17 of their students who got trapped in a ghastly car accident in Moliwe in front of CDC Office in Limbe I Subdivision about 7:30 am. In effect, three students, one driver of the Hiace vehicle and two babies died bringing the death toll to six. This was the result of a head on collision between a 17-seater Hiace matriculated LT 438LU and a 20-ton Mercedes truck registered 023073. It was even a dreadful day to the Kururu family as they lost three of their children in the accident.
Information from GTHS Ombe indicated that the driver of the Hiace had been ferrying students from Mile 4 Bus Station in Limbe to GTHS Ombe in Tiko Subdivision on daily basis for a long time. Two male students, one of them being Modu Kaleb of Form One, had jumped out of the vehicle before the head on collision. At press time, they could not be reached to explain what prompted them to jump out of the motion vehicle before the accident. All the causalities are from the Hiace which had 26 passengers on board including farmers. The truck which had three passengers on board was carrying sand and was heading to Limbe before the accident occurred in front of CDC Office in Moliwe.
Those who survived the accident are currently receiving medical attention at the Limbe Regional Hospital and Baptist Hospital Mutengene. Dr. Annereke Nyenti, Director of Limbe Regional Hospital, said on that day that all the victims in his hospital were responding to treatment. Chiabou, Senior Divisional Officer for Fako Division accompanied by Voh Armstrong - Divisional Officer for Tiko, Mayor of Tiko, Limbe City Mayor among others, visited and comforted the victims in the two hospitals. By 2 pm on that same day, one female student was discharged from Baptist Hospital Mutengene. Her mother brought her to GTHS Ombe where she collected her report card before the Divisional Office for Tiko. The deceased Hiace driver who belonged to the Muslim faith was taken for burial by his brethren. The corpses of the other victims have been deposited at the Limbe Regional Hospital Mortuary.
At the assembly ground of GTHS Ombe, the principal, Mukoto-Mewanu was inconsolable. The faces of her teachers were darkened with sadness. Dr. Mbuah Hannah Etonde, South West Regional Delegate for Secondary Education, assured the students who were in tears that the State is doing everything possible for their school mates to recover and join them for the third team. She wished them well for the holiday while urging them to be of help to their parents. One of the students requested that the State should put a bus service at their disposal. A request the authority promised to do something about. GHTS Ombe is found at the outskirts of Mutengene in Tiko Subdivision towards Limbe. The accident scene is Moliwe in Limbe I Subdivision.
