Preserving Peace, Security: Regional Governors Expect Directives Today

The first semester conference of Regional Governors ends in Yaounde this afternoon.

Governors of Cameroon’s 10 Regions are expected to be more effective in maintaining social peace, security, fighting terrorism, especially the Boko Haram sect and armed men, as well as contribute to the attainment of  the country’s 2035 vision of  getting to the emergence status when they leave Yaounde today, July 27, 2017  after their first semester conference for 2017. The conference is taking place on the theme, « Administrative authorities, preservation of social peace and protection of the national territory. »

Before the closing ceremony today, the Governors used the second day of the conference on July 26, 2017 to present the socio-economic, political and security situations in their respective regions. Territorial Administration and Decentralisation Minister, René Emmanuel Sadi will use the presentations to give directives on government’s orientations. The Governors during their press interviews already stated some of their major challenges. 

From their declarations, it was obvious that the Far North Governor will go back with new strategies on how to effectively tackle the Boko Haram sect and managing Nigerian refugees. There are certainly going to be directives to the Governors of the North West and South West Regions on how to ensure social peace and ensure the effective resumption of classes at all levels of education considering the problems of the 2016/2017 academic year caused by the strike of teachers trade unions. The Governors of the Adamawa and East Regions will also have instructions on how to tackle the refugee problems and security threats posed by the incursion of armed men the restive Nigeria and the Central African Republic.
