Both First Ladies met yesterday during a reception at the United States Missions to the United Nation.
Cameroon’s First Lady, Chantal Biya, on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 joined the First Lady of the United States of America, Melania Trump, as she called on the international community to better protect and support children. The synergy took place during a luncheon hosted by Melania Trump to all First Ladies in attendance at this UN General Assembly.
As early as 11:00 a.m. (US time), First Ladies from all over the world began making their way into the building of the United States Mission to the United Nations (UN Plaza Building 799) at the 44 East Street of the 1st Avenue, to honour an invitation from the First Lady of the United States of America. Amongst them was the First Lady of Cameroon, Chantal Biya. Melania Trump was the lone speaker at the lunch which lasted for close to two hours. She used the occasion to stress the important role parents play in building future leaders. She spoke against bullying while calling on parents and leaders around the world to come together for the good of children because through them, the future will be defined.
Chantal Biya expressed appreciation when Melania Trump said, "No child should ever feel hungry, stalked, frightened, terrorized, bullied, isolated or afraid, with nowhere to turn to. We need to step up, come together, and ensure that our children's future is bright." At one point in her approximately seven-minute speech, Mrs Trump talked about how she lives by and honours the golden rule and the idea that people should treat each other the way they would like to be treated. “By our own example, we must teach children to be stewards of the world they will inherit”, she noted. Melania Trump said children are "hit first and hardest in any country when it comes to drug addiction, bullying, poverty, disease, trafficking, illiteracy, or hunger.” She said protection and opportunities afforded to childr...
