19th CPC Congress: Delegates Adopt Xi Jinping’s Thought As Party Guide

A new Politburo Standing Committee will be elected on October 25, 2017. 

The Communist Party of China, CPC, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 ended its six-day 19^th national congress in the capital, Beijing, with President Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era incorporated into the party’s constitution as action guide. The thought joins Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Theory of Three Represents and the Scientific Outlook on Development as CPC members’ guidelines.

This followed amendments to the party constitution. Meanwhile, Xi Jinping, Wang Huning, Liu Qibao, Xu Qiliang, Sun Chunlan, Li Keqiang, Wang Yang, Zhang Chunxian, Zhao Leji, Hu Chunhua, Li Zhanshu and Han Zheng were elected into the 19^th CPC Central Committee. A new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, CCDI, was also elected at the close of the congress.

The 19^th CPC Central Committee, which will lead the party for the next five years, will on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 elect the Political Bureau, the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau and the General Secretary at its first plenary session. Xi Jinping is widely expected to be elected CPC Central Committee General Secretary and President for a second term at the head of a new Politburo Standing Committee.
