The 19th Communist Party of China, CPC national congress that held from October 18-24, 2017, has been described as “historic” because of the achievements recorded in the past five years. Moreover, China has now entered a new era as it draws closer to rejuvenation for the first time since the 19th Century, explained Xie Chuntao, a Professor of CPC Affairs.
Xie, a member of the School Affairs Committee and Director of the Academic Department, CPC Party School, is also alternate member of the 19th CPC Central Committee. He was delegate to the 19th CPC national congress. Xie spoke at a press conference in the Chinese capital, Beijing, on November 6, 2017. The meeting with journalists was to explain the import of the decisions reached at the 19th CPC national congress at which Xi Jinping was elected for a second five-year term as CPC Central Committee General Secretary.
According to Prof. Xie, China’s two centenary goals of attaining moderate prosperity and becoming a strong socialist nation will be achieved within the term of the 19th CPC congress. Before now, China aimed to become a well-off society by 2049, but this will be achieved 15 years earlier in 2035, he clarified. Henceforth, the party will play a greater role in all aspects of national life. “China’s achievements over the years are attributable to the CPC. There is no internal party wrangling. Moreover, there is political stability and continuity of policies,” Xie noted.
