National Agro Pastoral Census: Implementation On Good Footing

 The execution of the United Nations-inspired project was reviewed in Yaounde, yesterday November 15.

 

The implementation of the general census of agriculture and livestock in Cameroon is satisfactory, according to information disclosed at a meeting of experts held in Yaounde on November 15, 2017. The meeting was the third session of the National Technical Committee of the General Census of Agriculture and Livestock project. The project was drawn up following the principles of the 2020 World Census of Agricultural Program recommended by the UN FAO.
It is intended to create a database of Cameroon’s agro pastoral statistics and facilitate its continual update. This would contain the number of households and structures practicing farming, fisheries and animal husbandry, characteristics of their farms, inputs and tools used, locations, yields, productions of different livestock sectors, number and characteristics of aquaculture and fish farms, general and agro-pastoral characteristics of communities, state of roads and basic infrastructure, food security among other details. The data is intended to guide policy making and investment initiatives in the agro pastoral and fisheries sector.
