U-20 Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournament: Cameroon Reduces Qualification Chances

Cameroon’s chances of qualifying for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup are now slim. The Junior Lionesses of Cameroon played a 1-1 tie with the Black Princesses of Ghana on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Yaounde Ominsports Stadium. The encounter was the first leg of the last round qualifier of the U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Cameroon began the encounter well and displayed a mastery of the sport. The Junior Lionesses dominated the first half of the game and had several opportunities with their swift and accurate passes and good play style. Alexandra Takounda scored the curtain raiser for Cameroon at the 12th minute.

Even though technically the Junior Lionesses were superior to their opponents they were however slowed down by the zeal of the Ghanaians. The Ghanaians fought back in the second half and equalised at the 52nd minute through Princela Adubea. The goal makes her the best goal scorer in the tournament with nine goals.

The captain for the Junior Lionesses, Therese Ndzie Seme said even though the game ended in a draw the players are not discouraged. She said the team did not know their adversary and worst still the team lacks international matches.
