Telecom: Gov’t To Reinforce Digital Economy Drive

 The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications says her ministry’s 2018 Action Plan focuses on creating an enabling environment for all companies to board the digital economy wagon.

Plans are afoot in the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to facilitate the use of information and communication technology in enterprises nationwide. Minister Minette Libom Li Likeng disclosed the information during a New Year wishes presentation ceremony in Yaounde January 19. She told staff of her ministry and corporations under her authority that many small and medium-sized enterprises have been feet-dragging, seemingly not trusting or understanding the use of ICTs in growing their businesses.

 “We can have an optical fiber with high speed internet connectivity. But if companies cannot put it to use, it will contribute very little or nothing to our economy. It is our duty to make the cyberspace safe and secure for transactions; we need to create an enabling environment for our digital economy to prosper” she said.

She also said that this year the Ministry will launch new projects that provide concrete answers to major present-day issues such as, quality of service, security of electronic transactions, competitiveness of the economy, transparency in management and the fight against corruption.
