Civil Protection: Rescue Unit’s Capacities Upgraded In Maroua

 The project has also raised the competences of frontier police officers in the Far North Region.

The execution of a project for the strengthening of the capacities of fire-fighters and frontier policemen in the Far North Region has ended, rendering the said security agencies more apt in the discharge of their duties.

The European Union-sponsored project – “Project for the reinforcement of the climate of confidence between the State and the governed in the Far North Region of Cameroon” – was carried out in the last 30 months and cost some FCFA 2.5 billion.

The official ceremony to mark the end of the execution of the project took place in Maroua, Friday January 19, 2018, and was presided at by the Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Cameroon, Hans-Peter Schadek. On hand were Yvette Koloko, Minister Plenipotentiary and Technical Adviser at the Presidency of the Republic, General Ahmed Mahamat, Commander of the National Fire-Fighters Corps, amongst others.

During the ceremony, the Ambassador and his team, on working visit in the Far North Region, were treated to an exhibition of the equipment which constitute part of the project.
Training, renovation and equipping are the three components covered in the project by the EU funds. During the project which was launched in 2015, eight training sessions were organized.

The project has also boosted the logistic capacity of the army rescue unit in the Far North Region with heavy duty trucks, ambulances, pickup trucks, emergency water treatment units, speed boats and flood rescue equipment, assorted materials for rescue operations on road accidents and disease outbreak, amongst others.
