Cameroon-EU Cooperation: Ambassador Sizes Up Projects

For three days, the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Cameroon visited projects funded by the multilateral organisation in the Far North Region.

The Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Cameroon, Hans-Peter Schadek has rounded off a working visit to the Far North Region. During the visit, January 17-19, 2018, Hans-Peter Schadek and close collaborators, examined some important projects implemented with funds from the EU.

He began his visit in the presence of the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Systems, Allegra Baiocchi.

Before descending to the field, the Head of Delegation dedicated  a greater part of his Day-1 to pay courtesy visits and discuss with local authorities. He held talks with the Secretary General at the Far North Governor’s Office, the Secretary General of the Maroua City Council, municipal authorities of Maroua, the Lamidou of Maroua, religious leaders and army officials of the Fourth Military Combined Region.

Most of the discussions focused on local development, food security, restoring security and encouraging vigilance, inter-religious dialogue as well as preventing and countering violent extremism.

The Ambassador’s visit took him to the Gazawa Health Centre, Mokong village in Mokolo; one of the 16 villages where the EU funded a rural electrification project and the refugee registration centre and camp in Minawao; where over 90,000 Nigerian refugees are living.
