Less than 40 days to the November Female AFCON, architects and contractors are working to meet up with this October 17 deadline.
The countdown to the Female African Football Cup of Nations, AFCON, is fast approaching and the projects which had to be done in preparations for this tournament are getting to completion. The Molyko Omnisports stadium in Buea, being renovated as a training ground, is about 95 percent completed as confirmed by the Regional Delegate of Sports and Physical Education for the South West, Ekema Abel.
Visiting the magnificent playground 28 September, it was clear that what was formerly a village field is now attractive architectural piece. Spectators who will jam the stadium next November to watch training sessions of the female African teams will be amazed at its transformation. The play ground, the sitting area, the entrance, and the lighting are all futuristic. Workers at the site are burning midnight candles to make sure that the jewel is ready by deadline as per the contractual terms.
The renovation on the Molyko stadium has attracted many visits by Government Ministers in recent time that were eager to ensure that the works were completed in the stipulated time. The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mpkatt, has been closely overseeing the work, giving directives on efficient execution.
The Architect at the Molyko stadium, who sought anonymity, said CAF instructed Cameroon focus on four areas in the Molyko stadium. The committee in charge of executing the Molyko training stadium was challenged to come up with a futuristic field, construct good security checks, come up with fine dressing rooms as well as seats.
The architect explained that the roofing began on 27 September and will be completed in two weeks. For now, the field can take 400 people but can contain 2000 seats once fully completed, the Regional Delegate explained.
He was confident the building of the Molyko stadium will be completed by the end of October. He pointed out that rooms for doctors as well as toilets were ready. The VIP and press tribune was also complet. The dressing rooms are near-complete, Cameroon Tribune learnt. The metal service in charge of putting the roofs will be done any time soon.
