Douala Youths Demonstrate Patriotism

The ceremony which took place in pomp and pageantry was full of signs illustrating the love for Cameroon and willingness to live together.

The 52nd edition of the national youth day was celebrated with pomp and pageantry with the youths demonstrating their love for country and willingness to live together. Though there were no banners, the colourful march past was full of signs and symbols depicting patriotism.

First was the match past with a carved map of Cameroon painted in national colours and entangled in the circle that is symbolic of the Reunification monument in Yaounde as if to say Cameroon remains one and indivisible.

Celebrations started with a rebroadcast of the Head of State’s message to the youths on the occasion, and then followed the award of bronze medals of the Duke of Edinburg Award to some 217 youths who took part in the voluntary programme and the march past. Since there was a prize for the best march past in each category, every institution did its best to outsmart the other contenders and as such the public was treated to a thrilling march past full of applauses and laughter.

The march past began with small contingent of young fire fighters, the Red Cross, civic service, primary schools, secondary, university institutions and youth associations. The primary schools marched singing some old songs that raised nostalgia among the elders on the Grand Stand.
