Higher Education: University Lecturers Discuss Health Insurance

An awareness seminar held in the ministry on October 25, 2016.

Staff of State universities and their families have been enjoying health insurance cover since 2006. However, it has been noticed over the years that not many staff have subscribed to the policy, the fruit of an agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education and a local insurance company.

Opening an awareness seminar on October 25, 2016 in Yaounde, the Secretary General in the Ministry of Higher Education, Prof. Ngomo Manga, urged health insurance focal points and union leaders to ensure that lecturers took greater advantage of the opportunity. He said while the level of subscription remained low, the number of requests for social assistance from university lecturers was on the increase. Prof. Ngomo recalled how President Paul personally directed the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang, to oversee the signing of the insurance cover. “Healthy spirits live in healthy bodies. Health has no prize. The physical wellbeing of lecturers determines their output,” he noted.
