November Session: Senate Getting Set For Deliberations

Members of the second legislative period will begin meeting on Friday November 02 for the November ordinary session of the Senate.

Elected on March 25, 2018, Senators will according to a release by the Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji, on Friday begin meeting for the November ordinary session. According to the October 29 release of the Senate President, the House convened in its third ordinary session for the 2018 Legislative year will begin in its opening plenary at 4pm. The session usually dedicated for the examination and adoption of proposed State budget for the next fiscal year will run for 30 days.

This will therefore be the first budgetary session of the senate following their election into office. Senators will during this session witness the President-elect of the October polls take oath of office. This will be in respect of Section 140(1) of the Electoral Code which states that the President-elect shall assume office once he or she takes the oath within no less than 15 days of the proclamation of results by the Constitutional Council.
