Higher Education: Ministry Seeks FCFA 55.952 Billion

Besides the amount as budget for 2019, the ministry is also requesting FCFA 13 billion as special allocation to support the research modernization.

The Ministry of Higher Education (MINESUP) has presented a budget of FCFA 55.952 billion in commitment authorizations and payment appropriations for 2019. The Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo presented the draft budget to the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly, Saturday November 24, 2018. The draft budget, which has witnessed a drop of FCFA 5.449 billion as compared to the 2018 financial year, is distributed as follows: FCFA 16.1 billion for investment and FCFA 39.852 billion for recurrent expenditures. The Ministry is also demanding a special allocation of FCFA 13 billion to support research modernization. As priorities, the higher education ministry wants to put into operation the recruitment of 2,000 new university lecturers as authorized by the Head of State. The budget will also cover the improvement of intake capacity and technical platforms given the increase in enrolments over the years.
