High turn-out was reported in polling stations and the 45th President of the USA will be known today.
Americans yesterday, November 8, 2016 in all 50 States of the United States of America and Washington DC voted in general elections for the new President of the country who will replace outgoing Barack Obama.
Voting reportedly started with villages in New Hampshire just after midnight before States throughout the East Coast started polling at 06:00 local time. Democratic party candidate, Hillary Clinton accompanied by her husband, Bill Clinton voted in New York State. Mrs Clinton who reports say was cheered when she voted described the exercise as a humbling experience. On the contrary, her rival, Republican party candidate, Donald Trump, Mirror newspaper reported, was booed as he came to vote on New York city.
Mr Trump after voting called for “proper leadership.” BBC reported that a record number of Americans, more than 46 million had voted early by post or at polling stations. The news organ further reported that there were signs of a high turnout among Hispanic voters, which is believed to favour Mrs Clinton. Long queues were reportedly formed at polling stations in the key battleground state of Virginia and in other states throughout the country.
Before the end of the polls, BBC reported that Donald Trump filed a suit against the Clark County Registrar of Voters in Nevada, alleging the state kept early voting stations opened longer than the designated closing time. Polling in Nevada shows the race between Mrs Clinton and Mr Trump is extremely tight. Mr Trump's lawyers have asked for relevant early ballots not to be mixed with other ballots.
