Ambassador Peter Henry Barlerin had discussions with the Minister on February 7, 2019.
The Ambassador of the United States of America to Cameroon, Peter Henry Barlerin on February 7, 2019 congratulated the new Minister of Communication, René Emmanuel Sadi on his appointment. Talking to the press after the midday discussions, the Ambassador said he had known Minister Sadi earlier but was meeting him for the first time after his appointment as Communication Minister in the new government formed on January 4, 2019.
His coming to the Ministry of Communication was primarily just a courtesy visit, he said. “I congratulated him on the calm and measured declarations to the press he has been making since he has been in office,” the US diplomat stated.
Ambassador Peter Henry Barlerin coincidentally came to the Ministry of Communication just at the time press reports are rife that the US government was stopping security assistance to Cameroon. Questioned on the issue, the Ambassador said, “We are not going to stop security cooperation with Cameroon. Cameroon is a sovereign country and the US is a sovereign country,” he clarified. He recommended that if anybody needed more information about security cooperation, the person could contact the spokesperson in the US Embassy in Yaounde.
As for bilateral relations between Cameroon and the US, the Ambassador said they are excellent and long standing. “We aim to continue that relationship,” Peter Berlerin said.
