Kidnapping For Ransom : Defence Forces Re-establish Security

Vina Division, especially Belel Subdivision, in the Adamawa Region has in the past suffered multiple cases of kidnapping; typically for ransom.Kidnapping which is a global problem affecting countries worldwide had taken a toll on the locality, mostly perpetrated by rebels from neighbouring Central African Republic with the support of their local accomplices. But recently, the population of Belel has been able to sleep with both eyes closed thanks to the intervention of security and defence forces. Those who had fled the area due to rampant kidnappings have been returning home.
While on a working visit to the Adamawa Region, Friday May 24, 2019, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo reassured the population of Belel and the entire region of their security. He said the defence forces have carried out special operations to wipe out kidnappers and will not relent their efforts to ensure that no one is kidnapped again.
“During the last graduation ceremony of cadet officers of the Combined Services Military Academy (EMIA), the Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Paul Biya, gave firm instructions that special measures be taken to stop the kidnapping phenomenon. And that has been done,” Minister Beti Assomo explained. He noted that they have deployed over 200 men to the Vina Division purposely to combat kidnapping. Minister Beti Assomo urged the local population to collaborate with the defence forces in order to totally wipe out kidnappers. In the last four months, no case of kidnapping has been recorded in the locality, administrative authorities said. Stockpiles of weapons have been seized from kidnappers following many counter-kidnapping and hostage rescue operations.
