The post of head coach had been vacant since September 2018 following the resignation of Algeria’s Ahcene Ait-Abdelmalek just seven months after his appointment. Ashu Besong becomes South Sudan’s fifth foreign coach following the departure of Ait-Abdelmalek, South Korea’s Lee Sung-Jea, Serbian Zoran Dordevic and Uganda’s Leo Adraa.
