United Kingdom : Boris Johnson Is New British PM !

He beat Jeremy Hunt on July 23, 2019 to conclude a process that lasted several weeks.

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel, 55, will as from July 24, 2019 take over as the next British Prime Minister. He replaces Theresa May who resigned on June 7, 2019 and left office on July 23, 2019. The exit was prompted by her failure to secure parliamentary support for terms of Britain’s departure from the European Union under the process known as Brexit. 
Ever since, the ruling Conservative Party engaged in a long internal selection process to get a new leader and prime minister for the country. In the final contest with only two candidates remaining, Boris Johnson took 92,153 votes to beat Jeremy Hunt who had 46,656 votes. In his acceptance speech, Johnson said it was an “extraordinary honour and privilege to be elected Conservative Party leader, and to serve in Theresa May's cabinet, given the passion and determination she brought to the many causes that are her legacy.” He described his rival, Hunt, as “font of excellent ideas” which he promised to “steal.”
Meanwhile, congratulatory messages from world leaders have been pouring in for Johnson’s election.
