Armed Conflicts: EIFORCES Ends Course On Protection Of Civilians

Cognizant of a world plagued by recurrent civil strife, the International School of Security Forces, EIFORCES, in Awae on the outskirts of Yaounde on Friday, December 2, 2016, rounded up its pioneer course on protecting civilians during armed conflicts. The training that ran from November 28-December 2, 2016, was organised by the Japanese Cooperation in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP and the authorities of EIFORCES.

The 45 course participants were from the gendarmerie, police, Customs, Plan Cameroon and the Ministries of International Relations, Justice, Territorial Administration, Communication, Social Affairs, and Forestry and Wildlife. The Deputy Commander of EIFORCES, “Commissaire Divisionnaire” Dr. Oyono Cécile Thom said the objective was to ensure understanding amongst stakeholders on how to protect civilians in normal and conflict times. The Secretary of State for Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Jean Baptiste Bokam, recalled that EIFORCES is a peacekeeping training centre for the United Nations, African Union and the Economic Community of Central African States.

While commending the Japanese Cooperation for organising the course, he promised that future workshops will involve international participants.
