The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education was speaking as Cameroon celebrated last Monday, December 5, 2016.
As Cameroon joined the international community to commemorate the 31st edition of the Volunteerism Day, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou has called on Cameroonians, irrespective of their age and class to give part of their time, expertise and means freely, for the development of Cameroon.
Weeklong activities to commemorate the day took place at the National Institute of Youth and Sport (INJS) in Yaounde and were marked by a display of activities from volunteerism associations in Cameroon and abroad (Canada, Nigeria, France, and Japan amongst others). They shared experiences and projects carried out each day.
The Director of Youth’s Social Integration and Volunteerism, Yves Nteme Tokambou, says government is on a global campaign to sensitise Cameroonians on the need to promote volunteerism in the country. That is why Monday December 5, 2016, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the United Nations Volunteerism Programme organised a workshop to train and sensitise journalists on volunteerism and to build a network of journalists engaged in volunteerism.
