New Port Gate under Construction

The goal is to filter people getting into the port and ensure security.

A new and modern gate is under construction at the south entrance of the Douala Port, that is, the entrance passing through former Meridien hotel at the Messapresse junction. The sentry room has been constructed already and heavy concrete blocks placed in such as to make way for one incoming or outgoing vehicle to pass at a time. Even the Roundabout around Messapresse has been redone and a new coat of tar placed on the road to wipe away the potholes and smoothen the bumpy parts of the road to ease the flow of traffic. The edifices have not only added to the beauty of the area but also made it less cumbersome as taxis are no longer granted access to the port through this road as before. Taxis drop people around the former Meriden hotel and they either trek or take a motorbike down to the port.
According to a security guard found at the scene who opted for anonymity, both pedestrians and motorists will have to identify themselves at the gate and state the reason for the visit before being granted access cards to the port premises....
