Digital Banking : Mix Fortunes For Customers

While some are singing praises for this new method of banking, others see it as a bitter pill to swallow.


Franky N. is bank customer who is  seen at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) situated at the Melen neighbourhood in Yaounde. He seeks to withdraw money from his Afriland First Bank account. In some few minutes, he comes out with his cash already in hand. Francky after his withdrawal, states that since the coming of the ATM, he no longer needs to stand in long queues or wait for a cashier to withdraw his money. “Some time ago, I was obliged to get to the bank, stand in a long line waiting for my turn to meet the cashier,” he says. This is just one of the advantages of the digitalisation of banking services. The same customer is able to carry out most of his bank transactions via his mobile phone. 
Gerald Tasoh, a customer of National Financial Credit, NFC shares the same opinion with Franky in terms of less time consumption. Added to this, Tasoh says he has the possibility to operate his account at any time. “Even at past midnight, I can go to the ATM and withdraw money from my account. Even on public holidays and weekends I can have my money with no issues,” he opines. Tasoh, just like any other customer of the bank, is entitled to SMS banking, where the customer receives alerts. NFC equally has an online banking App with permits the customer to manipulate his or her account from home or office.  It provides a platform where a customer can log into his account, transfer money from one account to the other and request for a cheque book. The App also gives the opportunity to customers to pay some of their bills. 
At Ecobank, the ATM machine does not only provide for cash withdrawal but as well as cash deposits. A customer of the bank who sorts not be named states that this has been very useful.
