Humanitarian Gesture : United Nations Supports IDPs

The aid was offered on Wednesday December 23, 2020 in Douala.

Some 250 single mothers and 25 families hosting young girls who are Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Douala IV municipality have received some hygiene and sanitary kits from the United Nations population fund -UNFPA through its humanitarian response project.
The project financed by the European Union in collaboration with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, aims at protecting young girls from gender based violence and sensitizing them on personal hygiene.
In a research conducted by the United Nations Population Fund in 2019, the Littoral and West Regions of Cameroon play host to 200 thousand IDPs in which 50% of them are of school going ages. 87% of these IDPs especially the young girls have been victims of gender-based violence. With these figures, the United Nations Population Fund through its humanitarian response project has come to the aid of these IDPs by sensitizing them on domestic violence, sexual violence, sexual hygiene among others.
The project also has as objective the implementation of life-saving activities for vulnerable women and girls at risk in the context of armed conflict and Covid-19 pandemic.
