George Floyd’s : Affair All Lives Matter!

Irrespective of race, religion, social status and political orientation, human rights are to be enjoyed by all without discrimination.

The treatment of black skinned persons at the international scene has remained a prominent debate topic in several formal and informal discussions. On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man was killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer with the Minneapolis Police Department while being arrested for allegedly using a counterfeit bill. Footage images reveal that the police officer knelt on Floyd's neck for about nine and a half minute after he was handcuffed and lying face down. The death of George Floyd sparked worldwide condemnation as personalities and media outfits took to social media and traditional platforms to protests against what was termed police brutality, police racism, and lack of police accountability. History and a multiplicity of articles indicate that blacks have faced restrictions on their political, social, and economic freedoms throughout much of the United States, European and most developed western countries. Statistics reveal that black unemployment rate remains as high as twice that of white unemployment, net worth disparity is clear and access to certain positions is limited. 
Over the years however, black activists, intellectuals, and social commentators have raised awareness about the importance of diversity and shaped conversations around race and discrimination. Write-ups, movies and several projections across the globe have portrayed aspects of racial discrimination and subsequent measures adopted by some governments to curb the phenomenon and promote human dignity.
