The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, speaking during the ceremony congratulated the operators who have complied with the regulations in force. While opining that the sector is a pillar to economic growth and development, especially with the booming of e-commerce, the Minister urged the newly authorised operators to incorporate Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in carrying out their activities. She as well pledged government’s commitment to be the corner stone of the sector.
The Minister however regretted that a handful of operators in this sector     are still operating clandestinely. She warned that they should regularise their situations else face serious sanctions as from 2021. “The period of administrative tolerance is over. As from 2021, we will carry out repressive actions on those who have decided to go against the rules and regulations,” she stated. By so doing, the Minister underscored that those who have taken the pains to regularise their situations will have a larger scale to excel in the sector. Minister Li Likeng also stressed that the list of all authorised mobile operators will be published so that users would not fall in to the trap of clandestine dealers who will definitely be sanctioned.
