AFCON 2021 : Cameroon’s Hosting Rights Confirmed

The ceremony to sign the Framework Agreement Binding Cameroon and CAF for the organisiation of the 2021 AFCON took place in Yaounde on Friday, October 22, 2021.

It is now clear that Cameroon will host the 2022 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for January 9 to February 6, 2022. The solemn ceremony to sign the Framework Agreement Binding Cameroon and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the organisiation of the 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies AFCON took place at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex on Friday, October 22, 2021.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister Mouelle Kombi, President of COCAN 2021 on behalf of government said Cameroon is aware of the importance of the international competition and that the AFCON has a singular place in Cameroon soil especially with the COVID-19 pandemic. He said Cameroon will host the competition with all resilience and efficiency with respect of barrier measures and ensuring security in the organization of major sports competitions. 
On his part, CAF’s First Vice President, Augustin Senghor said staging the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, a country with an incredible football history, will mark the start of an all true important era in the story of CAF. “From this day, we can say that the AFCON will take place here. It is a very great day for us and we can show to the world that Cameroon is also a country that organises this kind of competition,” he said.
