Journalists Trained On Reporting Gender-based Violence

A one-day training to upgrade the reporting skills of journalists on women, peace and security (WPS) and the various ways of relaying information to prevent Gender-based Violence (GBV) held in Mbalmayo on December 20, 2021.

Organized by an NGO, Women International League for Freedom and Peace Cameroon (WILPF), it brought together 30 journalists from the public and private media organs in the Centre, East, Littoral and West Regions of Cameroon. The workshop was coordinated by WILPF National President, Mrs. Sylvie Jacqueline Ndongmo, had as resource persons Comfort Mussa, journalist and member of Sisterspeak237, Vidal Ngaleu and Guy Feugap, both of WILPF Cameroon.

Addressing participants at both opening and closing ceremonies, Sylvie Jacqueline Ndongmo pointed out that the training will have far-reaching effects in the society as it will assist journalists to identify the causes of gender-based violence and the risks of instability through the proliferation of arms in our society. She said the training will also help to dissuade journalists from resorting to unethical practices to obtain news on the subject.
