2021 TotalEnergies AFCON : Draw Ceremony Gives Greenlight

The sumptuous event held August 17, 2021 at the Yaounde Conference Centre unveiled the composition of the six groups of the competition and spurred more enthusiasm.

Cameroon began its countdown to the 2021 TotalEnergeis Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on August 17, 2021 when the most awaited draw ceremony held at the Yaounde Conference Centre. Not only did Cameroon hold a sumptuous ceremony to commemorate African football, but it also scored more points by clearing all doubts that the competition will effectively begin on January 9, 2022 in the country. CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe attended the ceremony, as well as Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education and President of the AFCON Local Organising Committee, COCAN. The ceremony was equally graced by the presence of a plethora of African Football stars who converged on Yaounde in the likes of Roger Milla, Elhadji Diouf, Rabah Madjer, Rigobert Song, Asamoah Gyan amongst others. 
Cameroonian music star, Salatiel had the opportunity to begin the show with a mouthwatering display of his song “Ca se passe ici”. The show was also spiced with a spectacular dance performance which highlighted the cultural diversity of the host nation, Cameroon and equally tinted an image of a country jealous of its unity and togetherness as the dancers of the different cultural zones came together at the end of the performance. The trophy of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations being presented by legend Roger Milla was aamongst the great moments of this ceremony which will certainly remain as a first successful test as the countdown to the AFCON narrows.
