The information was disclosed in Yaounde on February 9, 2022 after officials of the mining firm, Eramet, met with the Minister of Mines, Industries and Technological Development.

Cameroon looks forward to having - in the next few years – a world class rutile mine. The assertion was made on February 9, 2022 in Yaounde by Dr Fuh Calistus Gentry after meeting with officials of Eramet rutile mining firm. The Secretary of State to the Minister of Mines, Industries and Technological Development said the report given by the company was satisfactory.

The Minister of Mines, Industries and Technological Development, Gabriel Dodo Ndoke, earlier chaired the discussions with officials of Eramet, a rutile mining firm with an exploration  concession in Akonolinga in the Centre Region. The meeting was also attended by Dr Fuh Calistus Gentry. The Eramet delegation was led by the newly appointed General Delegate for Africa, Loise Tamalgo and Andre-VictorinAtangana, Cameroon Country Manager.

“Eramet is one of our best performing mining companies. They have respected their duties and obligations. This is what we want to use as the standard for mining companies. The next step is for Eramet to move towards obtaining a mining exploitation convention. Before then, Eramet wants to tally up the results of their trials that will not just be minable quantities, but that which will make Cameroon a world class producer of rutile,” Dr Gentry explained.

“Eramet came to report on the progress of their project in Akonolinga. The perspectives are very brilliant. I can assure that Eramet is moving towards the possibility of a mine that will be world class. We also received a new Eramet Head for Africa, Loise Tamalgo, who is based in Gabon. He will oversee the project from there,” the Secretary of State added. Eramet has been exploring for rutile in Akonolinga for one and half years now.

“Our focus is to make Cameroon one of the best producers of rutile in the world by enabling the people to draw profit from the endowment of their subsoil. According to our roadmap, production should begin by 2025 after a whole process of trials, test production…And each stage is going to create jobs and social responsibility on our part,” Loise Tamalgo disclosed.

“I would to thank Cameroon for the trust in Eramet. This is important for the project. Our plan is to work in line...
