Mount Cameroon Race Of Hope: 550 Athletes To Compete Tomorrow

Some five countries are expected in Buea this February 19, 2022 to participate in the 27th edition of the competition.

Competing athletes are streaming into Buea ahead of Saturday’s international Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. Some 550 athletes have been registered for this year’s race from the host country Cameroon and others including USA, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Equatorial Guinea.
Responding to Cameroon Tribune, the President of the South West Regional League of Athletics, Eteki Njoh Andrew, explained that by February 15, 2022, preparations had hit a 90 per cent success. The 27th edition of the Race of Hope promises to be hectic with numerous athletes seen these days training along the race course. At the level of the local organising committee, Eteki Njoh noted that two meetings have been held with the Governor of the South West Region to ascertain the various committees are at work and to ensure athletes and visitors will have a comfortable stay while in Buea.
Preparatory committees covered the areas of Technical, Animation, Transport, Medical, Security, Reception and Protocol, Decoration, Infrastructure and Sanitation, Track Clearing, Communication, Health, Entertainment, Mobilisation, Choreography and Libation. Eteki Njoh confirmed at press time that the various commissions had rounded off their tasks. He emphasised that what was left is for those concerned to provide the necessary financial means to finalise assignments. Porters engaged with carrying materials to the mountain and hostesses, have also been designated. Mbella Emmanuel, President of the track-clearing committee testified that the tract on the mountain had been cleared, stones marked with paint and just waiting for the athletes.
Novelties for this year’s event will include a new socio-cultural touch with the new paramount Chief of Buea, HRH Robert Esuka Endeley, President of the Libation Committee, to make his first appearance at the race launching event.
