Cholera Takes Toll

The Littoral Region has again recorded five new cases, although no new deaths have been reported.

The spread of cholera has risen to 33 by Tuesday, February 22, 2022, up from 28 last February 9, 2022. So far so good no new deaths have occurred since the two that took place over a week ago. According to the Assistant Incident Manager in Douala, Lekelem Skinner, the deaths occurred as the patients were either rushed to the hospital or in the course of medical treatment in hospital.
Over 78 have been successfully treated since the onset of the contagion in December 22, 2021. Most affected are the health districts of Makepe, Deido, Nylon, Boko, Bonassama, New Bell and Melon in the Moungo Division. Youpwe, Makepe, Nylon and Mambanda are known risk zones in cholera endemic Douala. Treatment of patients is free in many health establishments in Douala, where patients are.
The Assistant Incident Manager is calling on people with diarrhoea and vomiting to immediately rush to the nearest health establishment for medical attention. He said diarrhoea and vomiting are common symptoms of cholera.
In a recent interview with Cameroon Tribune at the Incident Command System in Bonanjo, Douala, he said there is no first aid before going to the hospital.
