Women in the Buea, seat of the South West Region, have marked the 37th edition of the international Women’s Day on March 8, 2022, at Bongo Square Buea with gratitude to the government for including more women in decision making. Akawoh Minerva Molinge, Buea Council 1st deputy Mayor recounted that there is an increase of the girls going to school today. That there is a significant number of women in politics and noted that after the legislative and municipal elections of 2020 women gain about 47% positions.
Sona Ediage Lucia, South West Regional Delegate for Women Empowerment and the Family stressed to the women on gender equality issue which is a breeding ground for problems in many homes. “Women empowerment does not signify that women will not be accounted to their families. It does not mean women should be disrespectful to their husbands and elders. Every man is a king in his own house,” she told them.
