Fund For Local Initiative : Canada Trains, Equips NGOs

The sharing and learning workshop for heads of NGOs and facilitators from the High Commission of Canada in Yaounde started yesterday March 9, 2022.

Members of over 30 local NGOs (Non-governmental Organisations) in Cameroon are currently learning and sharing ideas on the management of funds they receive to carryout projects in different fields. This is within the Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI). The Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon, Richard Bale opened a two-day workshop yesterday March 9, 2022 in Yaounde, to strengthen the capacities of those spearheading civil societies’ organisations in Cameroon. The principle purpose is to provide support to Cameroonian NGOs within a set of priorities perceived as a need in the country by the government of Canada.
Participants at the workshop were those who benefited from the CFLI last year, as well as some NGOs which are yet to benefit from the Canadian Fund for Local Initiative in a bid to enable them learn about the programme. The High Commissioner said, it is a platform for the High Commission to assemble members of different NGOs, to share their experiences and learn from each other. It was also a forum for the High Commission to receive feedbacks from the NGOs on what they learned from the Initiative, what did not go well and what should be retained. The Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon said it is not just about being established as an NGOs, but also being able to write a good proposal. He explained that this is a skill that most of these local organisations lack or do not really understand how the programme works. Hence, the High Commission wants to educate local organisations so that they successfully apply for funds.
