At 44, the Egyptian goalkeeper is the oldest player to have participated in the final phase of the African Cup of Nations.
Everything seems to be turning around for good for Egyptian goalkeeper, Essam El Hadary. At 44, the football legend has become the oldest player to take part in the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Even though he went to the AFCON Gabon 2017 as a replacement player, Essam El Hadary finally became a full player on Tuesday January 17, 2017 when he replaced first choice goal goalkeeper, Ahmed El-Shannawy, at the 25th minute following an injury during their encounter against Mali on Tuesday January 17, 2017 at ongoing AFCON 2017.
The veteran goalkeeper has therefore broken the record of his former team mate, Hossam Hassan who was the oldest player who participated in an Africa Cup of Nations at the 39. Essam El Hadary has good reflexes and is capable of changing the course of a game. Memories of his talents are still fresh in the minds of football lovers whereby in some matches El Hardary out of luck was able to stop all attempts by his adversaries.
