Dikolo Demolition : Sawa Community Expresses Dissatisfaction

Through the cultural association Ngondo, the restitution of all damaged properties and retrocession of land is asked.

The Sawa community in Douala say they are not satisfied with the recent demolition of homes (April 2022) at Dikolo area of Bali neighbourhood in Douala. They made their views known in interviews with media shortly after an extraordinary general assembly of their cultural association, Ngondo, at the Salle des fetes at Akwa on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
The one point agenda of the extraordinary general assembly, which was attended by traditional rulers, notables, elite and the ordinary man, examined what they call the expropriation of their land. They constituted a committee to make a report of the situation and make their proposals which will be submitted to the Governor of the Littoral Region for appraisal.
Although the deliberations were restrictive on the media in that it was held strictly in the Douala language and men and women of the press were barely admitted into the hall where deliberations were going on only on the basis of putting on the Sawa regalia, it filtered that the Sawas of Douala are asking also for the renewing of the post of the Senior Divisional Officer of Wouri.
