Decentralisation and Local Development Minister, Georges Elanga Obam has inaugurated low-cost houses constructed by the municipality of the Biyouha Council in the Nyong and Kellé Division of the Centre Region. He commissioned the structures on June 3, 2022 in the presence of the Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Irène Nguene. The houses are the product of a partnership agreement between the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance (FEICOM), the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC) and Credit Foncier du Cameroun (CFC). A total of 12 apartments of three different categories were commissioned and were constructed with the sum of FCFA 226 billion 252 million 640 thousand, and the financing accord was signed on June 14, 2017. One of the structures is already being occupied by Elise Gladys Beguel, a staff at the Sub divisional office and she pays FCFA 35,000 per month for the abovementioned first category of houses.
Commissioning the structures, Minister Georges Elanga Obam said the importance of the project is to improve social development by addressing housing deficit and enhancing the modernization of rural and urban centres. “This is proof that decentralisation is not just a theory but practical. We want to encourage all Councils to copy the example of Biyouha, to implement at the end of the day what the President of the Republic is projecting as concerns local development, conducted by the Councils to the benefit of the population,” he stated.
