Mankon : New Fon Presented To Public

Angwafo IV Fru Asaah, the 21st traditional ruler of the fondom and successor of Angwafor III Solomon Ndefru who reigned for 63 years, had his first public appearance on June 7, 2022.

The customs and traditions of the Mankon Fondom in Mezam Division of the North West Region now have a new custodian. In effect, the transition from His Majesty, Angwafor III who disappeared from the throne on May 21, 2022 has been completed with Angwafo IV Fru Asaah as the new traditional ruler. An awe-inspiring crowd witnessed the first public appearance of the Fon at the ‘Fozan’, Ntaw Mankon plaza on June 7, 2022. 
It was virtually the last lap in week- long traditional rites that featured the mourning of the disappeared Fon.  It all unfolded with the suspension for a week of farming activities in Mankon, ban on the wearing of caps by males, smearing of bodies with wood ash, etc. It was indeed, a show of the traditional weight of the Mankon fondom witnessed among others by many traditional rulers.
 From the look of things, the official enthronement (‘Nikwi na abuub’) of His Majesty, Angwafo IV will take place some months later. He succeeds his father, Angwafor III Solomon Angyeghamoti Ndefru who disappeared at the age of 97 after a 63- year reign over the fondom.
