Social Olds : Youths To Be Empowered

The project “Peaceful coexistence and empowerment of displaced youth in Littoral and West Regions of Cameroon” was officially launched at the Akwa Palace Hotel in Douala on Saturday, June 25, 2022.
The project to cover the period from January 2022 to July 2023, was launched by the Secretary General in the Littoral Governor’s Office, Aboubakar Haman Tchiouto, in the presence of the Inspector General in the West Goernor’s Office, Epente Adray, Regional Adviser for Communication and Information of UNESCO, Nejib Mokni and Secretariat Coordinator of Peace Building Fund, Davide Dolcezza, among many others.
The project aims to contribute to a better integration of displaced young men and women from North West and South West in eight host municipalities of the Littoral and West regions in order to establish a culture of lasting peace. These are the municipalities of Babadjou, Bafoussam I, Mbouda, and Santchou in the West Region, as well as Douala IV, Manjo, Melong, and Nkongsamba I in the Littoral Region, which receives large flows of internally displaced persons in search of security and well-being. They were chosen based on the fact that they border the conflict regions. 
Pride of place is given to young girls (60%) and children (sometimes unaccompanied) who are the main victims of this forced migratory movement within the country. The vulnerability of young girls and children manifests itself through elements of measurement such as prostitution, destitution, unemployment, etc. Moreover, many of these young people no longer have access to land to continue their agricultural activities far from home.
The ongoing armed conflict in the English-speaking regions has the worrying consequence of migratory flows and demographic inflation observed in the neighbouring municipalities in the Littoral and West Regions...
