United States : 246th Independence Day Celebrated

The calibre and number of dignitaries present said it all. From the decor and security dispositions one could rightly guess the United States and Cameroon are once more showcasing the strength and quality of their relationship. This time, it was not the inauguration of a mammoth project, but the celebration of the 246th US Independence Day on Friday, July 8, 2022. Flanked by Felix Mbayu, Cameroon’s Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, other members of government and diplomatic corps, the United States Ambassador to Cameroon, Christopher Lamora while welcoming his guests, scanned through the positive relations between the two countries, “The United States and Cameroon have a deep and enduring relationship touching on countless vital issues that matter to Cameroonians and Americans alike.”
According to the United States diplomat who was celebrating his first Independence Day in Cameroon as Ambassador, the US has over the past four years invested in Cameroon more than $111 million to fight malaria, tuberculosis and HIV. This investment, he added, has touched the lives of 1.7 million people in the North and Far North Regions. In the education sector, the US has directly supported more than 95,000 children in 265 primary schools in the North, Adamawa, East and North West Regions. The humanitarian and security sectors are not left out as the US is the largest humanitarian donor in Cameroon, with more than 1.3 million emergency food assistance already provided to the people, while an agreement to strengthen maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea has helped in the training and equipping of forces fighting against Boko Haram and the ISIS West Africa.
