AFCON 2025 : Guinea Stripped Of Hosting Rights

CAF announced the decision on Saturday October 1, 2022 after a meeting that took place in Conakry on Friday September 30, 2022.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has stripped Guinea of the right to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). CAF announced the decision on Saturday October 1, 2022. The decision comes on the heels of a meeting that took place in Conakry between Guinea’s interim President Colonel Mamady Doumbouya and the President of CAF Patrice Motsepe. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the withdrawal of Guinea after the country said it will not be able to host the 24-nations tournament. In a statement President Motsepe said “I visited Guinea out of respect to the people of Guinea to discuss CAF’s willingness to advise and work together with the football stakeholders to construct and build football infrastructure and facilities in this country, in the light of the decision by CAF not to proceed with the AFCON 2025 in Guinea,
However, the bidding for the tournament was set to be reopened on Saturday, although just announced, the decision had been made as early as June. Meanwhile, Algeria football boss Zefizef Djahid has said his country will bid to stage the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after original choice Guinea were stripped of the hosting rights.
