England-Iran : Dominant England Thump Iran

The Three Lions ran riot 6-2 against an inexistent Iranian side last evening at the Khalifa International Stadium.


England made light work of Iran in their first Group B game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as they secured a comfortable 6-2 win. It did not look that plain in the opening stages of the game as Iran held out for larger spells of the first half but the flood gates did open after 35 minutes when Luke Shaw timed his run before placing an inch-perfect cross that found the head of Jude Bellingham who nodded England ahead. 
Bukayo Saka (43’) then added a second eight minutes later, pelting Harry Maguire’s lay off into the roof of the net. By half time, England were three nil up thanks to Raheem Sterling (45+1’) who arrived at the near post to guide in Harry Kane’s cross.
Iran lacked any sort of threat and looked bereft and broken and never really recovered from their first half no show. England further pulled them to shreds in the second half as Bukayo Saka (62’) cut inside onto his left foot to fire his second goal of the night past the Iranian goalkeeper.
The only blot in the English script was an inability to keep a clean sheet after Iran got a consolation three minutes later through Mehdi Tarehmi. The Porto man later slotted home his second of the night from the penalty spot in added time but it was a little too late a f...
