National Athletics Championship : New Season Launched In Yaounde

Over 200 athletes took part in the competition at the Yaounde Omnisports Stadium last weekend.

The Yaounde Omnisports Stadium was the venue of the kick off of the 2023 National Interclubs Meeting that took place last weekend. Organised by the Cameroon Athletics Federation (FECA ATHLETICS), the competition brought together over 200 athletes from clubs across the country. It was equally an opportunity for officials to detect new talents and for other young aspirants to develop interest in the sport. The athletes competed in several disciplines in the track and field. The new season’s opener was particular with the reintroduction of the hurdles competition after several years of absence. 
In the women’s 100m race, Nde Maria Thompson from BESTA Athletics Club was the first in 11"88. In the men’s 100m, Emmanuel Eseme Alobwede (CMSP) was the fastest finishing the race in 10”32. Emmanuel Eseme equally won the men’s 200m race in 20”44. He has remained unbeaten since last season. In the women’s 5,000m Ngong Sylveria (INJS) finished the race in 18’35”3. In the men’s 5000m Yainam André (FAP) won the race in 15'25"0. In the women’s 10km walk Taykio Hamidou (FAP) was the first in 54.22. In the men’s 20km walk Taptue Hervé (FAP) finished the race in 1.41.44. In the women’s long jump Kossenda Rey Veronique (INJS) jumped a distance of 5.75. In the men’s high jump, Nkwemy Raymond (AIA) jumped a distance of 7.21. Koueche Kevine (INJS) won the women’s high jump after jumping a distance of 1.65 and Bayemi Oscar (AIA) won the men’s high jump in 2.00. In the women’s javelin Mafogang Adèle (INJS) threw a distance of 35.99.
