Group A, B : Algeria, Senegal Top Charts

After Day 1 matches, both sides bettered their chances of progressing to the second round by clinching their first three points.


Host Algeria and Senegal started their campaign at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022) on a buoyant note. Algeria beat Libya 1-0 in the opening match of the tournament on January 13, 2023 to clinch their first three points. These three points put them at the top of Group A after Mozambique held Ethiopia to a goalless draw in the second group A match played on January 14, 2023. The draw means that Mozambique and Ethiopia hold the second and third positions in the group with one point each. Though they could get just one point, this result is history-making for Mozambique that recorded their first ever point at the CHAN, in their second participation. The only beaten candidate in the group, Libya thus seats on the last position with zero point. With Algeria on the top seat, a win in their second game against Ethiopia tomorrow January 17, 2033 will mean direct qualification into the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, a draw or a loss may complicate qualification in the group pending the results of Mozambique versus Libya on same day.
