Group B : Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire Reach Quarterfinals

The two sides secured their spots in this stage of the competition after the third and last playing day in group B on Sunday January 22, 2023.

Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire have sailed through to the quarterfinals stage of the ongoing seventh edition of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022) in Algeria. The two sides secured their spots in the quarterfinals after the third and last playing day in group B on Sunday January 22, 2023. 
Senegal beat two-time winners, the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-0 in the Eastern city of Annaba. The Teranga Lions A’ won their first match against Côte d’Ivoire 1-0 and lost the second to the Cranes of Uganda 0-1. Senegal began the last round on the second position in the group. The victory which came as surprise to many put Senegal on the top spot in Group B. They will play the quarterfinals against group D winners on January 27, 2023. At press time yesterday, the match between Mauritania and Mali in group D was still going on. 
Côte d’Ivoire beat Uganda 3-1 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers to grab the ticket to the quarterfinals. The Ivoirians went into the last round as last in their group but were able to secure a place in the quarterfinals. Côte d’Ivoire lost 0-1 to Senegal in their first game and drew 0-0 in their second game against the DR Congo.
